The Final Countdown . . .

Countdown
Saturday, 26th April 1997 will see the culmination of an idea that was born well over twelve months ago. When I think back to that evening spent with Mike & Rita reminiscing about the "good old days" I find it difficult to believe that we are now only two weeks away from our Reunion. It was a December evening in 1996, just after Christmas and we were talking about the old Youth Club at Argyle. The names of Brian, Brillo and Bonzo conjured up the picture of Saturday nights in the upstairs 'vestry', lit by a dim light bulb so no-one could see how badly you danced, and no-one could see whose hand you were holding! We kind of half suggested that it would be a good idea if we could get to see some of those old pals again. It would be good if we could get together with a few of them for a night out. Trouble was we had all lost touch over the years. I had recently met Sue & Rodge Barnes (Sue Lewis) and Mike had Brillo's phone number so there were two good starting points. Perhaps they knew the whereabouts of some of our old Youth Club mates?

But the question which came to our lips almost simultaneously was: "Whatever happened to Old Bonzo?" We knew that he had left Bristol to go to University. Was it Scotland or Newcastle? Somewhere up North? We didn't have a clue! How on earth were we going to find him? How on earth were we going to find any of the old Youth Club members who had drifted away over the years? It was then that Mike had a brainwave! "Let's suppose that his Mum still lives in Beechen Drive," he said. "Why don't we ring Directory Enquiries?" So we did ..... and she does .... and she told us all about Mr. Bonner. She gave us his phone number. He lives in Chorley, about half an hour up the motorway from Manchester! It's a small world. We rang him. "Is that Bonzo?" asked Mike, "How about having a Reunion?" The rest, as they say, is history!

It was the search for Bonzo that started the whole thing off, and with his Mum's help, we got it licked!

QUESTONNAIRE RESULTS.

Many thanks to all of you who took the trouble to complete the Questionnaire which was enclosed with the Christmas Newsletter. (Issue #2). I'm glad the person who wanted music provided by the Bay City Rollers decided to remain anonymous, and to the person who asked if they could get in free the following week if they presented a Bugs Bunny birthday card and wore their ABC Minors badge (which still glows in the dark!) the answer is NO!! BRIAN!!

Decision have been made on the basis of the results and a simple majority has decided which choice has been made. The results were as follows:-

1)      88% said that they would like food provided.

2)      77% voted for a Cold Buffet. This will cost £4.25p and either Alan or Chris will be collecting this in the next week or so.

3)      83% voted for some sort of organised activity.

4)      The vote between a game of Skittles and a Trivia Quiz was split 50% - 50% but because the Skittle Alley is needed for the Buffet tables our minds were made up for us. So '65 -''75 Trivia Quiz it is!

5)      If we ignore the vote for the Bay City Rollers (No, Brian! Tell Pat they are NOT a hair care product!) the music vote was 58% for tapes of old favourites, so please bring along a cassette of your fave raves!

6)      77% voted to invite members & their partners so please bring along your other half, wife, mistress, girlfriend/boyfriend, or somebody you pulled the night before! (After all, didn't we live through the liberating 60's & 70's?)

7)      Finally, 58% voted against attending a service at Argyle on Sunday 27th, so we shall not be holding a special service but I'm sure that anyone who wishes to attend on Sunday will be given the usual warm welcome.
